This 6 km-long island is a little treasure on the Var coastline. We regularly spend a day here paddleboarding along the shore and discovering hidden coves. Outside the peak season, you can even find yourself completely alone in this natural paradise !
The landscapes are varied and quintessentially Provençal. Walking around the island is easy and takes around two hours, during which you’ll enjoy stunning panoramic views. You’ll wander through pine forests and walk alongside vineyards and cliffs, all while soaking up breathtaking views of the sea and the Giens Peninsula.
You’ll have a wide choice when it comes to find the perfect spot to relax among the small beaches and coves scattered around the Embiez island. The rocks shimmer in the sunlight and the water is crystal clear, home to rich marine life. A true delight for scuba diving enthusiasts !

⚠️ In certain areas, signs indicate a protected zone between the Giens Peninsula and Embiez island : this is the Brusc Lagoon. It’s important not to walk on it, as it is currently regenerating its marine flora, particularly Posidonia, a seagrass that is essential to the ecosystem.
– Did you know ? –
Like the little Bendor Island, Embiez island is one of the Paul Ricard propriety. In the 1950s, the creator of the famous pastis (aniseed alcoholic drink) purchased both islands. His will was to open them up to the general public year-round, whether for a day trip, a weekend getaway or a longer stay.

Where to stay on the Embiez island ?
You can choose accommodation managed by private owners or book a room at the island’s only hotel : hotel Helios. We’ve had the chance to stay there ourselves and have very fond memories of it. This 4-star hotel features an indoor pool and a spa. Its biggest asset is its ideal location right on the harbour, halfway between all the island’s main points of interest.
– Our opinion –
The Embiez island is a relatively undeveloped island that has successfully preserved its natural environment. This commitment to protecting the site has allowed it to keep its charm and wild character. Even though we visit it regularly, we’re always just as amazed by the island’s beauty. Its small rocky coves and tiny beaches give us a true sense of escape and total disconnection from everyday life every single time.
We’ve explored the island both on foot and by paddleboard. While we prefer the latter, both options are great for a lovely day trip or longer stay. It’s also a perfect stop on a South of France road trip. Contrary to popular belief, it’s entirely possible to find yourself with very few people on a beach or even completely alone. This is probably because some coves are harder to access than others.
And finally, we’ll share our favorite swimming spot with you : the “Allemands beach”
